We have some difficulties with the current version of DMI that comes in packaged with NinjaTrader 8. Additionally, several indicators we have created utilize the DMI calculations, therefore we decided to include our own version of DMI, the Enhanced DMI (Directional Movement Index).

This indicator can also utilize the Average Directional Index (ADX) and Average Directional Index Rating (ADXR). When viewing the DI+ and DI- curves, it could become helpful in understanding the trend directional before committing. Other enhancements include curve smoothing and custom internal average calculations. The user is no longer bound to the standard Wilder average.

Enhanced DMI Features:

• Custom average type. The user can utilize several averaging methods.
• This could be considered two indicators into one. Directional Index curve with the additional ADX and ADXR curves.
• DI curve smoothing: This will remove choppy readings.
• Select which curves to display on the indicator panel.
